What is sommelai?
It’s wine intelligence. sommelai learns your palate and reads any wine list for you, so you order the bottle you’ll actually love. Scan a restaurant’s list, say what you’re eating or what you’re in the mood for, and get a recommendation matched to your taste in seconds. You can also build a cellar by scanning bottle labels, track what you’ve tasted in your Tasting Notes, and grow a taste profile that sharpens every recommendation over time.
How do I create an account?
When you first open the App, you’ll confirm you’re at least 21 years old and take a quick taste quiz to personalize your recommendations. To save your taste profile and start getting wine recommendations, you’ll create an account. You can sign up with your email address or use Apple Sign-In, and you’ll provide your display name, date of birth, and gender. Email sign-ups include a quick step to verify your address.
How do I scan a wine list?
Open the App and tap the scan button in the center of the bottom tab bar. Point your camera at the wine list and tap the capture button when the image looks clear. You can scan up to 8 pages per wine list. The App will read the wines from your photos.
Why didn’t the scan pick up all the wines?
Wine lists vary in formatting, lighting, and print quality. If some wines were missed, try rescanning with better lighting, a steadier angle, or by capturing the page in sections.
How do I use the wine cellar?
The cellar helps you track wines you own. To add a bottle:
- Go to the Cellar tab
- Scan a bottle label
- Point your camera at the front label (and optionally the back label)
- The App will identify the wine and show you how it matches your taste profile
You can edit quantities, add purchase details, and remove bottles as you drink them.
How do I scan a bottle label?
From the Cellar tab, tap the + button in the header to open the camera. Point your camera at the front label and capture it. You can optionally scan the back label for more details. The App will identify the wine and assess how well it matches your taste preferences.
What is a taste profile?
Your taste profile is how sommelai tailors every recommendation to you. It starts with your onboarding quiz results and is constantly maintained, growing and sharpening the more you review wines. It powers your bottle recommendations and assesses how well the wines in your cellar match your taste.
You can review and adjust your preferences anytime from the Profile tab.
How many scans can I do?
You can perform up to 10 AI-powered actions per day (this includes both menu scans and pairing requests). The daily counter resets each day. Bottle scans in the cellar have separate limits.
How do I leave a review?
After you receive wine recommendations and indicate you’re having a wine, you can review it:
- Rate it from 1 to 5 (optional)
- Select flavor notes you noticed
- Mark any flavors you disliked
- Add a comment and dining location (optional)
Your reviews help improve your taste profile and future recommendations. You may receive a reminder notification about an hour after indicating you’re having a wine.
Is my data private?
Your personal information is not shared with third parties in a way that identifies you. We may use anonymized and aggregated data to improve our services. Your menu and bottle images are processed to read the wines they contain. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
How do I delete my account and data?
You can delete your account and all of your data directly in the App, with no email required. Go to the Profile tab, scroll to the bottom, tap Delete account, and type DELETE to confirm. This permanently and immediately removes your account, taste profile, cellar, reviews, tasting notes, and stored photos. This cannot be undone.
If you’re unable to access the App, you can instead email [email protected] with the subject line “Data Deletion Request” and we’ll process it for you. Anonymized or aggregated data that has already been incorporated into our analytics cannot be individually identified or deleted.
How does Apple Sign-In work?
When you choose Sign in with Apple, Apple verifies your identity and provides us with your email address (or a private relay address if you choose “Hide My Email”). We never see your Apple ID password. You’ll still need to complete our sign-up flow to provide your display name, date of birth, and taste preferences.
I found a bug or have a feature request
We’d love to hear from you. The easiest way is from inside the App: open the Profile tab, expand Support & legal, and tap Contact support or Request a feature. Your Account ID is automatically attached so we can investigate faster. You can also email us directly at [email protected].
